Ocean Prosperity has opened the doors of Ocean Prosperity Academy in Amed, Bali — a purpose-built learning space rooted in a simple but powerful belief: that when people understand the ocean, they protect it.

The academy is the latest expression of Ocean Prosperity’s mission to reconnect communities with the ocean through education that leads to action. Rather than functioning as a conventional institution, it is designed as an open, inclusive environment where ocean knowledge is made accessible, relevant, and alive — in conversation with the people closest to it.

Located in Amed, a coastal village whose identity, livelihood, and culture are inseparable from the sea, the academy places learning directly inside the world it aims to protect. Workshops, collaborative sessions, and community discussions give participants — students, educators, fishers, and local residents alike — space to contribute their own knowledge and make sense of global ocean challenges through their own lived experience.

“At Ocean Prosperity Academy, we are not just sharing knowledge — we are building the understanding that leads to real change,” said Jeremias Mandel, Co-Founder of Ocean Prosperity. “The ocean is part of all of us. When people feel genuinely connected to it, that is where action begins.”

The academy is built on the conviction that ocean education belongs to everyone, not only scientists or specialists. By reducing the distance between learning and daily life, Ocean Prosperity Academy creates the conditions for communities to move from awareness to ownership — and from ownership to lasting stewardship.

“We want this to be a place where anyone can walk in, feel welcome, and leave with something meaningful,” said Eka Ketut, Project Coordinator at Ocean Prosperity Academy. “When people see the ocean as part of their own story, caring for it becomes natural.”
