In March 2025, a local diver informed us that two ghost nets lost fishing nets were tangled in coral at Golden Rock Dive Site. Ghost nets are deadly traps that keep killing long after they’re abandoned.
We planned a rescue mission on March 17, organizing:
- Safety training for divers
- Equipment checks
- Team briefings to avoid damaging coral Golden Rock is a deep dive site with strong currents, so we worked closely with local fishermen who offered their boats for support. On March 20, 17 skilled volunteers helped us remove 205 kg of ghost nets.
Why Ghost Nets Are So Dangerous Ghost nets are abandoned, lost, or discarded fishing nets that remain in the ocean.
